Sam is a Vice-Chancellor’s Senior Research Fellow at RMIT University. His research is primarily concerned with issues of capital, labour, and value as they relate to the cultural economy, specifically the political economy of the music industries, as well as the impact of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) on the Australian music industries. Dr Whiting’s previous research has included work with the University of South Australia, SA Music Development Office, City of Adelaide, National Live Music Office, City of Melbourne, Monash University, and the University of Tasmania. His recent book, Small Venues: Precarity, Vibrancy and Live Music, is out now through Bloomsbury. Sam is also a 2024 Churchill Fellowship recipient.
