After the announcements of Polish artists, who will perform at Music Week Poland, it’s time to uncover the first wave of foreign artists, who will be making their way to Warsaw in June. And they are coming from such wonderful countries as Lithuania, Ukraine, Croatia, Finland and Slovakia.
Sad dance and punk madness
The Ukrainians are bringing some great hypnotic sounds to Warsaw. Pororoka focuses on life and death, man’s fate and love and to touch upon those deeply profound themes they apply their dark, alluring folk music coming straight from Ukrainian culture, history and attitude. On the other hand, NFNR Ukrainian DJ and producer, plays spellbinding electronica. Her rhythm is melancholic but also liberating, making you lose yourself in dancing.
There is no chance that you won’t be dancing to Croatia’s Neon Lies darkwave and synthwave tunes. With a post punk sensibility, minimal but still highly emotional sounds, Neon Lies’s music cast a welcoming shadow for all those who want to immerse themselves in its might and glory. Lithuania’s Solo Ansamblis have a similar approach to sound: minimal and synthetic. They describe their style sad dance. Spot on! And the lyrics about longing and loss only add the melancholy to their music’s dusky mood.
At Music Week Poland we aim to bring together tradition with the future. And there is no better example of such approach as the music Désirée Saarela, a Finland-Swedish, singer-songwriter and folk singer. Her music is rooted in folk, but her aesthetics are shaped by her modern life spanned between city and countryside, between the forest, sea and the people she encounters on her artistic journey.
And there is Vojdi from Slovakia. We had the chance to seen them live at this year’s Ment festival and it was love at first noise. Those guys from Slovakia and Czech Republic take their decibels quite seriously but never lose the fun and joy in performing. Their sound has the harshness of punk, freedom of jazz, unpredictability of alternative music.
The ever expanding band roster of Music Week Poland
The foreign artists are joint the expanding list of already announced Polish artists: Nene Heroine, Hania Derej, YANA, Janka, DEAE, Coals, Hajda Banda, Gary Gwadera, AcidSitter, Cinnamon Gum, Swada / Niczos, Królówczana Smuga, Mala Herba, Agata Karczewska, Izzy and the Black Trees, Javva, The Bullseyes, Kosmonauci, vgtbl.pl (Franek Warzywa & Młody Budda) and Julek Ploski.
