The fortieth, anniversary edition of the ESNS showcase conference and festival in Groningen was filled with outstanding concerts. More than three hundred artists from around the world performed across over thirty clubs and concert venues. Poland, thanks to the support of Culture Hub Poland, was represented by Yana Couto, Leona Jacewska, Omasta, Hania Derej, Cinnamon Gum, and Hér.
The latter three are graduates of the first edition of Music Week Poland, which took place in June 2025. Back then, in Warsaw, their concerts were met with an excellent reception – and it was no different in Groningen.

Hér performed at A-Theater, a venue where concerts are part of everyday life alongside theatrical performances and contemporary dance shows. With the lights dimmed, standing in a circle with their backs to the stage, the artists conducted their musical rituals, where tradition meets modernity, tension meets release, and mystery meets noise. This was the case on Thursday.
The following day, unfortunately, a scheduling clash occurred – Cinnamon Gum and Hania Derej were performing at the same time in two different locations in Groningen. Cinnamon Gum played in the main hall of MXT, a space that once served as a comic museum. There was nothing exaggerated about their music, however – their sound is one hundred percent natural, organic, and genuine. And although their blend of soul and funk carries a touch of nostalgia, it is tailored to a thoroughly contemporary sensibility, something clearly appreciated by the large international audience in attendance.
Hania Derej, on the other hand, performed in a venue with an entirely different atmosphere and history – the eighteenth-century Protestant church Nieuwe Kerk. She arrived in Groningen with a trio, giving her concert at times a distinctly jazz-oriented character. There was also no shortage of beautiful, cinematic, illustrative soundscapes, as well as nods toward contemporary chamber music. The church’s acoustics, combined with its centuries-old interior, perfectly highlighted Derej’s music.
It is also worth mentioning the international artists who performed in Groningen and have previously been involved with Music Week Poland – namely Serbia’s Turbo Trans Turisti and Slovakia’s Vojdi.

Czterdziesta, jubileuszowa edycja konferencji i festiwalu showcase’owego ESNS w Groningen wypełniona była świetnymi koncertami. W ponad trzydziestu klubach i salach koncertowych wystąpiło ponad trzystu artystów z całego świata. Polskę, dzieki wsparciu Culture Hub Poland reprezentowali Yana Couto, Leona Jacewska, Omasta, Hania Derej, Cinnamon Gum oraz Hér.
Ta ostatnia trójka to absolwenci pierwszej edycji Music Week Poland, która odbyła się w czerwcu 2025 roku. Wtedy, w Warszawie, ich koncerty spotkały się z doskonałym przyjęciem. Nie inaczej było w Groningen.
Hér wystąpili w A-Theater – przestrzeni, w której na co dzień koncerty przeplatają się ze spektaklami teatralnymi czy pokazami tańca współczesnego. Przy wygaszonych światłach, stojąc w kręgu tyłem do sceny, artyści odprawili swoje muzyczne czary, w których tradycja spotyka się z nowoczesnością, napięcie z uwolnieniem, misteria z hałasem. Tak było w czwartek.
Następnego dnia doszło niestety do rozpiskowej kolizji – w tym samym czasie, w dwóch różnych miejscach Groningen, występowali Cinnamon Gum oraz Hania Derej. Ci pierwsi grali na głównej sali MXT, przestrzeni, która niegdyś służyła jako muzeum komiksu. W muzyce Cinnamon Gum nie było jednak nic przerysowanego — ich brzmienie jest w stu procentach naturalne, organiczne i prawdziwe. A dźwięk soulu i funku, choć ma w sobie nutę nostalgii, skrojony jest pod jak najbardziej współczesną wrażliwość, co doceniła licznie zgromadzona międzynarodowa publiczność.
Hania Derej wystąpiła w miejscu o zupełnie innym nastroju i historii – w pochodzącym z XVIII wieku protestanckim kościele Nieuwe Kerk. Do Groningen artystka zabrała ze sobą trio, przez co jej koncert miał chwilami silnie jazzowy wymiar. Nie zabrakło też oczywiście pięknych, godnych wspaniałych filmów ilustracyjnych pejzaży czy ukłonów w stronę nowej kameralistyki. Kościelna akustyka w połączeniu z kilkusetletnią przestrzenią idealnie podkreślały muzykę Derej.
Trzeba też wspomnieć o międzynarodowych artystach, którzy wystąpili w Groningen, a mają za sobą przygodę z Music Week Poland – mowa o Turbo Trans Turisti z Serbii oraz Vojdi ze Słowacji.
