Public funding has long played a vital role in the live music industry – but does it always serve the sector’s best interests? Where does genuine support for artists, promoters, and venues end – and where does market distortion begin?

This panel will explore public support mechanisms for the live music industry, from grassroots initiatives and small clubs to large-scale funding that shapes the festival and touring landscape. What funding models exist, and where can they be found? How do public funds affect market competitiveness? We’ll also address the risks – when does support turn into unfair advantage, favoring selected players?

Are there solutions that strike a balance between aid and healthy competition? Which funding strategies are worth expanding, and which ones lead to structural imbalances?
