Professionalisation has become a widely discussed concept in the music industry. It refers to creating clearer structures, defined roles, and shared standards in a field long driven by informality, passion, and DIY spirit.

Yet even as this conversation grows, much of the music ecosystem remains undefined. Job titles are fluid, career paths are rarely linear, and expectations vary widely across countries and sectors. For many, the challenge isn’t just how to work in music—but how to build a sustainable, fulfilling career within it.

This panel explores what professionalisation really means today: how to bring clarity to roles, skills, and growth opportunities in an ever-evolving industry. How can music professionals consciously shape their careers in a sector still shaping itself?

We’ll discuss:

  • What does professionalisation mean in music today?
  • What tools and methods can help define our roles and career paths in the music industry?
  • How can we recognise and unlock our potential in a fragmented landscape?
  • Is it possible to build financially stable, long-term, and fulfilling careers in a field that resists formalisation?

This won’t be a standard talk. Our panelists will also invite the audience to engage in live creative challenges and hands-on career reflection tasks, making this session as practical as it is inspiring.

Whether you’re a newcomer, a mid-career professional, or someone helping others grow—this session is for anyone ready to navigate the future of music work with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
