Introduction & Presentation

European music export has often been seen as valuable, but rarely measured in a systematic way.
In a rapidly changing ecosystem shaped by digitisation and globalisation, we now ask: can we, and should we, measure the export of European music?

We will briefly present a new indicator framework developed by Open Music Europe, based on the Social-Ecological Systems Framework (SESF) and the UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics (2025).
This methodology offers a fresh perspective on mapping the music sector’s value creation, beyond traditional statistics.

Workshop: Building Indicators Together

Participants will work together to:

  • Identify key aspects of music export
  • Brainstorm ideas for measurable indicators.
  • Discuss the challenges of translating intuition into evidence.

The session aims to test and refine a new methodology with the direct input of music sector professionals.
